The painting "a house for the people, by the people....." was inspired not only by the 1970's photo used to create it but also from my personal experience of growing up and living in Pierre SD. Experiences that range from Girl Scout Christmas concerts as a Brownie, to decorating a tree for Christmas in the grand hall just outside Governor M. Rounds Office two years ago. The Capitol is painted into the lives I and so many others have lived since it's completion a centery ago. The South Dakota Capitol, it's art and history is the home we work and dream in. The stately front view entrance reflects the endurance of our state, the people who came before us, the times we live in, the steps we are taking towards inspired plans and hopes, to continue the quality of life South Dakota is known for."
